Dr. Yung Chen is a Spine & Muscle/Joint Specialist, who completed his training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with a subspecialty in Spine & Musculoskeletal Medicine and Pain Medicine at Stanford University Hospital, Stanford, CA.

Dr. Yung Chen is a spine, muscle and joint specialist in the San MateoHis expertise is to provide conservative care for patients suffering neck pain, back pain, sciatica, pinched nerve, shoulder pain, hip pain, knee pain, sports injuries, work related injuries, and other muscle/joint problems.

He can help you to diagnose and treat your condition. He is able to order X-rays or an MRI to find out what is wrong and offer appropriate treatment options for you. Depending on your condition, medical prescriptions such as physical therapy, drug therapy, or injection therapy will be prescribed. He can design a comprehensive rehabilitation program and refer you to a physical therapist as needed.

Dr. Chen performs various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including shoulder, elbow, wrist and knee injections, muscle/tendon injections and other interventional spinal procedures, such as epidural injections, facet joint blocks, or percutaneous disc procedures for your painful condition. Dr. Chen will provide the most state-of-the-art treatment for you.

In addition, Dr. Chen may utilize various modalities to treat your painful condition. Non-chemical or non-pharmaceutical options, such as electrical stimulation, low dose laser, or medical acupuncture may be utilized. He is a certified Medical Acupuncturist from UCLA School of Medicine. Many pain patients obtain excellent pain relief from medical electrical acupuncture which also provides stress relief and relaxation. This is a non-chemical way to alleviate pain.

Dr. Chen also performs electrodiagnostic studies (i.e.- EMGs) to diagnose patients with carpal tunnel syndrome, overuse syndrome, pinched nerves, sciatica and arm or leg pain.

Dr. Chen works closely with your family doctor, surgeon, orthopedic doctor, neurosurgeon, chiropractor, and physical therapists to provide the best care for you.

Prior entering private practice, Dr. Chen served as an Assistant Professor, Medical Director for the Stanford Interventional Spine Center, Stanford, CA. He has taught many physicians about nerve, muscle, joint, spinal disease and injection therapy. Dr. Chen was voted by the Stanford students as the Best Teacher of the year in 2001. He is dedicated to medical research. He has published numerous articles in medical journals and book chapters. He has been presenting research articles at international medical meetings. He has been interviewed by KRON TV, various newspapers, and TIME magazine (2001) for innovative spine care. Dr. Chen is very excited to serve patients in the Bay Area.
